Non-Cancerous Lesions
Moles (Nevi)
These are very common benign skin lesions. They can sometimes have melanoma develop inside them. Any mole that changes needs to be assessed by dermoscopy. Unsightly moles can be removed by shave excision or formal surgical excision. Shave excision removal of moles start at $150.
Solar Keratosis
This is surface sun damage to the skin. These are dry, flaky patches and has a small chance of turning into SCC.
Solar keratosis can be treated with topical creams, but a biopsy may be needed to rule out SCC skin cancer.
Recent research has shown that taking Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) 500mg twice daily, significantly reduces solar keratosis.
Sebaceous cysts
Also know as epidermal inclusion cysts, these are benign , but can be troublesome when they rupture or get infected and cause abscesses. Surgical excision can be used to remove these. Size and location will often determine the cost for removal.
Lipomas
Benign growth of one or more adipose (fat) cells. These are fairly common and can get very large. They need to be surgically excised to remove them. Very rarely they can undergo malignant (cancerous) change and will then usually grow rapidly and/or get painful. Cost of removal depends on location and size.
Seborrhoeic Keratoses
One of the most common skin lesions. These are a harmless, benign growth, and can be removed by surgical excision (see below), shave excision or can be left alone.
